THE PROBLEM - ILLEGAL WILDLIFE TRADE IN COSTA RICA

Trafficking and possession of wildlife is a serious problem around the world, especially when ecosystems where these species are destroyed and constantly disturbed. Costa Rica’s new law forbids the capture and confinement of wild animals. Now let’s help the government do something about it.

The Solution – Lazy J Wildlife Sanctuary & Alturas Wildlife Sanctuary

Together we can move towards ending the illegal wildlife trade in Costa Rica. Support our efforts to provide the proper care and retirement for those confiscated by the government and brought to our sanctuary for rescue, rehab, release or retirement. Join us in giving neglected wildlife a second chance at life.

Our Location

Our remote, secluded location allows us release certain animals directly on our property for reintroduction into the wild. Some stick around and just want to be part of the family and we are blessed with their daily presence in our lives. This is a private reserve not open to the public. Become a donor and we welcome your visit.

Alturas Wildlife Sanctuary

Our Mission: Save the wildlife of Costa Rica's rainforest.

The Alturas Wildlife Sanctuary is a facility that receives animals that the government of Costa Rica confiscates from any type of illegal situation. That is usually the illegal pet trade or illegal domestication by people. We also receive abandoned or orphaned baby and adult animals that have been injured but survive. Our mission is to rescue, rehabilitate and release them back to their natural habitat and to provide sanctuary for those animals that cannot be returned to their natural habitat because of disability, injury or severe over-domestication. We also work to educate and enlighten the people of the world about the amazing animals of Costa Rica!
